Your Owner-Operated Deck Builders
Located in Jenison, MI & Building decks for all of West Michigan
Construction Kings is different because we are owner-operated from start to finish. When you call or text us, you are talking directly to one of the two owners. When you schedule a free in-person consultation, one of the two owners is the one showing up. And when your deck is being built, look out the window — chances are, you will see both owners on the job making sure everything is done right.
And that’s exactly why homeowners choose us!
With most large companies, your first call goes to a receptionist. Then a salesperson comes out to your house. Then months later, when it is finally time to build, a crew you have never met shows up to do the work. The people who sold the project are nowhere to be found, and the people building it often have no real personal stake in the finished product.
At Construction Kings, that is not how we do things.
We believe your deck is too important to be handed off from person to person. As owner-operators, we stay involved from the first conversation to the final board. That means better communication, better quality control, and a higher level of care throughout the entire project. We are not here to push volume or rush through as many decks as possible. We are here to build your deck the right way, with craftsmanship we can be proud of.
The Materials We Trust
At Construction Kings, we believe a deck is only as good as the materials it is built with. That is why we use products we can fully stand behind.
For decking, we use Clubhouse PVC decking for three main reasons:
-
One of the most scratch-resistant deck boards on the market
-
Stays up to 30% cooler than many competitors
-
A warranty we can stand behind
Clubhouse decking offers a 25-year fade and stain warranty, along with a lifetime limited warranty on the
performance of the decking. The warranty is also transferable to the next homeowner, which can be a huge selling point.
For railing, we use Ultralox aluminum hand railing.
Ultralox is strong, maintenance-free, and gives any deck a luxury finish. It is made from powder-coated aluminum, so it is tougher than regular paint and will not weaken or rot away like other materials can over time. On top of that, it is backed by a 20-year warranty and comes in countless color and design options.
At the end of the day, the goal is simple — build a better deck. We have builders who care, have more attention to detail, and treat each project like their own. We use some of the best products on the market, and because Construction Kings is owner-operated with lower overhead, we are able to keep our pricing competitive while using better materials.
Does Your Deck Need a Reface or a Full Rebuild?
Not every deck needs to be completely torn out and rebuilt. In some cases, the framing (or the structure/supports) underneath is still solid and a reface is the smartest option. In other cases, the structure is no longer worth covering up, and a full rebuild is the better long-term investment. At Construction Kings, every deck is looked at by an actual builder — not just a salesperson — so we can help you figure out the right solution for your home, your budget, and the true condition of your deck.
Deck Reface
If your framing is still in good shape, a reface can be a great option. This usually means replacing the deck boards, railing, and fascia while keeping the existing structure underneath. It is often the right choice when the bones of the deck are still solid, but the surface materials are worn out, outdated, or ready for an upgrade.
Partial Rebuild
Sometimes a deck is somewhere in the middle. Part of the structure may still be usable, while other areas need to be repaired or rebuilt. In those situations, we can recommend targeted repairs or partial rebuilding to address the real problem without doing more than the project actually needs. One of the most common repairs is the stairs, but we will often tackle posts, joists, and beams as well.
Full Deck Rebuild
If the framing is failing, undersized, unsafe, or simply not worth covering up, a full rebuild is usually the best way to go. Starting fresh allows us to build the deck the right way from the ground up, giving you better long-term performance, better safety, and a better finished product overall.
A Good Recommendation Starts with a Real Inspection
A lot of companies are motivated to save the existing framing because it saves them time, labor, and waiting on inspections. In many cases, the person inspecting your deck is a salesperson — not a builder — and that can lead to recommendations based more on convenience than what is actually best for the project.
At Construction Kings, we inspect decks like builders, because that is exactly what we are. We look closely at the framing, the structural condition, the safety of the deck, and whether the existing frame is truly worth building on. We are not interested in taking shortcuts just because it makes the job easier.
When we recommend a reface, repair, or full rebuild, it is because we believe that is the right call for the deck — not because it is the fastest route for us.
Who Are the Kings?
We are the two owners behind Construction Kings — the same two people answering the phone, showing up for consultations, and building the decks ourselves. We started Construction Kings with a simple goal: treat people right, build better decks, and take real pride in the work we put our name on.
In an industry full of big companies, sales teams, and crews that homeowners never get to know, we wanted to do things differently. We do not care about being the fastest, doing 100 decks this month, or having the nicest trucks in the lot. We care about having the best possible outcome and taking pride in everything we build. That is why every job site has one of the two owners on it at all times. That is why we stay hands-on from start to finish.
Construction Kings is built by two 24-year-old best friends who have known each other since 1st grade. We rode the same bus, biked to each other’s houses as kids, and years later ended up building a company together. In a lot of ways, that history is a big part of why this business works so well.
We started Construction Kings in 2022, originally taking on small projects on the side and reinvesting everything we made back into the company. Pretty quickly, those small jobs turned into something much bigger. Before long, we were able to leave our normal jobs behind and go all in on building this full time. Since then, we have grown Construction Kings by staying hands-on, doing things the right way, and treating every job like it has our name on it — because it does.
The best way to describe how we work together is like a zipper. We overlap in a lot of areas, but each of us brings our own strengths to the table. One side does not work without the other, and when both sides come together, everything runs the way it should.
Meet Kam
I am Kam Schnick, co-owner of Construction Kings. I started working in decks, siding, and roofing all throughout high school, so construction has been a part of my life for a long time. In 2022, I started Construction Kings with the goal of building something of our own — something we could take real pride in.
These days, I still wear a lot of hats. I handle our social media, website, a lot of the customer communication, and plenty of the work on the job site too. I have never been the kind of guy who wants to pressure people into buying something they do not need. I would rather give honest advice, keep things straightforward, and make sure the job gets done right.
I think homeowners appreciate that we are real people. What you see is what you get. I care a lot about doing clean work, keeping communication easy, and making sure every customer feels good about who they hired. Outside of work, I am a huge skier, so if you catch me talking about snow in the middle of deck season, that is probably why.
Meet Kai
I am Kai DeBoer, co-owner of Construction Kings and the licensed builder on our team. Before doing this full time, I spent three years as an installer for one of the biggest bathroom remodeling companies out there, which gave me a ton of hands-on experience, a sharp eye for detail, and a high standard for how jobs should be done.
Today, I handle a lot of the admin side of the business, including pulling permits, placing orders, and making sure everything is lined up the way it should be. I also handle a lot of incoming customers, and I am huge on the details. I know the codes, I care about doing things right, and I am the kind of person who wants every measurement, every detail, and every finish to be exactly how it should be. My faith is a big part of who I am, and it shapes the way I try to treat people and carry myself in business.
I take a lot of pride in making sure every project is thought through the right way from the start. Faith is a big part of my life and shapes the way I try to work and treat people. When I am not working, you will usually find me doing something outdoors — especially if it involves fishing.
Why It Works
We split a lot of the work, but we also work side by side on a daily basis. One of us may be focused on the customer experience, the website, and the brand, while the other is focused on permits, code, and making sure every detail is dialed in — but at the end of the day, we both care about the same thing: building the best deck possible and treating people right while we do it.
Construction Kings is not built on a sales team, layers of management, or a bunch of handoffs. It is built on friendship, trust, hard work, faith, craftsmanship, and two owners who genuinely care about the outcome of every single project.
